Kundalini Yoga -The Yoga of Awareness-

Kundalini yoga is a spiritual practice and a form of yoga that focuses on awakening the dormant spiritual energy known as kundalini. It has its roots in ancient Indian spiritual traditions and was popularized in the West in the late 20th century. Kundalini yoga is known for its emphasis on the experience of energy and the transformational effects it can have on practitioners. It is often described as a powerful and transformative practice that can bring about profound shifts in awareness and personal growth. The goals of Kundalini yoga include expanding consciousness, increasing vitality, improving physical and mental well-being, and connecting with one's higher self. Kundalini yoga incorporates a combination of postures, movement,  bandhas (body locks), breath, meditation, mudras (hand gestures),  and chanting of mantra.

A typical Kundalini Yoga class includes :

  • tuning in mantras

  • warm-up exercises (series of postures and movements),

  • Kundalini kriya (specific postures, movements, breath, mudras, and mantras to bring a desired effect to the body, mind, and spirit)

  • Deep relaxation

  • Meditation / Pranayama (breath work)

  • Tuning out mantras
